Little

Nursery milestone backgrounds

5 designs · 1 illustrated artwork

Five backdrops that put your baby in a room rather than against a colour. They are the closest thing in Little to the staged nursery photo people set up on a real blanket with a real crib, without the twenty minutes of moving furniture and the light being wrong by the time you have finished. White Crib is the illustrated one; the rest are gradient scenes.

Every nursery background in Little

  • Wooden Crib

A warm wood cot scene. The default nursery choice and the most literal of the five.

  • White CribIllustrated

Illustrated white cot with soft bedding. The one drawn artwork in this category, and the crispest at print size.

  • Beige Nursery

A neutral room in oat and cream. Reads as a nursery without committing to any furniture.

  • Scandi Nursery

Pale wood and white, low contrast and airy. Suits photos taken in bright daylight.

  • Boho Nursery

Rattan and warm earth tones with more texture than the other rooms. Good with knitted outfits.

Making a scene background look like it belongs

A scene has an implied light direction and an implied floor, so it is less forgiving than a flat colour. Photos taken from slightly above, with your baby lying down or propped up, sit into these mats far better than a photo shot straight on from standing. Little's cutout adds a natural shadow underneath, which does most of the work of anchoring your baby to the scene, but a photo lit from the side will still fight a backdrop lit from the front. If a nursery mat looks slightly off and you cannot say why, that is usually the reason, and reshooting near a window facing your baby fixes it.

Choosing between the room styles

Wooden Crib and White Crib are the literal ones, and they read best in the newborn months when your baby is small enough that a crib is the natural setting. Beige Nursery, Scandi Nursery and Boho Nursery are room-mood backdrops rather than specific furniture, so they stay believable as your baby grows into sitting and standing. If your own nursery is decorated in one of those styles, using the matching mat makes the photos look like they were taken at home even when they were taken on the kitchen floor.

Questions about nursery backgrounds

Which nursery backgrounds are illustrated?
White Crib is a drawn artwork asset. Wooden Crib and the three room styles currently render as gradient scenes.
Do nursery scenes work for newborn photos?
They are the strongest category for the first three months, when a crib or a nursery corner is where most of the photos are being taken anyway.
Will a nursery background still look right at twelve months?
The room styles will. The crib scenes start to look odd once your baby is standing, so many parents move to plain colours or seasonal scenes in the second half of the year.
