Using the seasons to date the photos without a caption
The strongest reason to use seasonal mats is that they make a first-year grid readable at a glance. Twelve months on a plain colour tells you nothing about when anything happened; the same twelve with blossom in April and pine in December tells the whole story before you read a word. It also solves the problem of a birthday that falls at an awkward time, because a January baby's month six lands in summer and the mat can say so.
Which summer scene to use
There are five summer designs and they are not interchangeable. Summer is the general one, for hot days that happened in the garden. Beach Day and Beach Day Two are sand-and-towel scenes for the first proper trip. Seaside and Seaside Two sit further back, with more sky and water, and suit photos where your baby is being held rather than lying down. If you are marking a first holiday across several days, using two different beach scenes for two mats keeps the pair from looking like a duplicate.

- Yes. All eight are drawn artwork, added in version 1.1.0 alongside the celestial set.
- What happened to the older seasonal backgrounds?
- Four earlier gradient versions were retired when the artwork replaced them. They are kept internally so that any mat made on one still opens and renders correctly, but they no longer appear in the picker.
- Is there a scene for each month of the year?
- Not one per month. There are eight scenes covering the four seasons, with extra depth in summer for beach and seaside days.
