How to write a baby milestone caption

Start with the month, then add one true detail. "Five months" is a label; "Five months, and she has stolen every pair of glasses in the house" is a memory. The captions here are starting points. Swap in the thing that actually happened and they become yours.

Keep it to one line. A milestone photo is looked at for a second or two, and a caption that fits in that second gets read. If there is more to say, it belongs in a scrapbook page or the photo book, not the post. Our month-by-month caption guide goes deeper on what to write when nothing obvious happened.

Baby caption questions

What do you write on a monthly baby photo?

The month, and one thing that changed: a first smile, a new tooth, a food they hated. A caption that names something specific means more in ten years than a general quote about time flying.

What is a good short caption for a baby milestone?

The number and nothing else works well on a busy photo: "Six months." or "Half a year!". For the first birthday, "ONE." is hard to beat.

Can I use these baby captions on Instagram?

Yes. They are free to copy for Instagram, Facebook, a family group chat or a photo book. Pick one, swap in a detail from your own month, and post.

What are funny captions for a baby's first birthday?

Lean on the cake and the presents: "One year old. Ate the cake. Wore the cake." or "First birthday, and the wrapping paper was the best present." Choose First birthday and Funny above for more.

Should a baby caption be written from the baby's point of view?

It is a popular choice for monthly photos and it reads well on a nursery wall. Choose In their words above for captions written as if the baby is speaking.
